What is a dental implant?

Dental implants. A dental implant is a small part made of titanium or titanium zirconium which is placed in the jaw bone in place of the missing natural tooth root. The implant may be surgically inserted under local anesthetic. Titanium is generally well tolerated by the human body and bone has been shown to bond well to titanium. Once healed, the artificial root acts as a base for fixing individual crowns and multi-tooth bridge. The implant can also be used as an anchor for entire dental prosthesis.

Single Tooth

Losing a tooth can be a very upsetting and traumatic experience for any one, at any age. A single dental implant is a long term secure treatment that can successfully replace any missing tooth.

Are dental implants safe?

Yes. For over 30 years, it has been possible to replace tooth roots almost entirely with dental implants. This modern dental-medical method has been scientifically tested and used for decades.

Our principle dentist has completed numerous implant cases including: single/multiple implants, bone grafts at Robin Hood Dental Practice. We strongly believe that implant cases not only require a high level of knowledge and skills but the preparation and planning stage needs to be thoroughly set out before the implant is placed to ensure the best possible results.

All of our dental implant cases include a full case assessment which will carry out the required examinations (medical etc), scans and x-rays, which will enable us to enter the implant placement stage fully prepared.

The full case assessment will be looking at:

  • Whether there is sufficient bone density to allow the successful placement of an implant – If not, a bone graft (see bone graft) may be required
  • If you are currently in good health to have the implants
  • How your existing roots are currently set in your jaw – which will dictate the angle the implant is inserted

Denture retained Implants

Say goodbye to denture adhesives, sore spots and embarrassing moments. Many people find that dentures can move or become dislodged during the day, making them uncomfortable and potentially embarrassing. However, for those who may find the cost or nature of full mouth implants intimidating, implant supported dentures are a perfect solution. With implant supported dentures, two or more implants are placed in the jaw and the entire denture clips into them. Although implant supported dentures are not as secure as full mouth implants, they can be a convenient alternative. if you need dental implants in Birmingham please do not hesitate to get in touch.
